On Tuesday, Oct. 13, Joel Jacob McConnell was indicted by a Lake County Grand Jury on one count of failure to appear in the first degree. The charge stemmed from an incident on or about Oct. 5, having been charged with the crime of possession of methamphetamine, a felony, and having by court order been released from custody under a release agreement upon the condition that the said defendant would subsequently appear personally in connection with a charge did unlawfully and knowingly fail to appear as required.
On Friday, Oct. 2, Joseph Wayne Cheek was indicted by a Lake County Grand Jury on four counts. Count one was for kidnapping in the first degree. The charge stemmed from an incident on or about Sept. 24 when the defendant, acting together with James Borchers did unlawfully and knowingly, without consent or legal authority take a minor from one place to another with the intent to interfere substantially with the personal liberty of said minor, and with the purpose of furthering the commission of or an attempt to commit the crime of first-degree rape against said minor. Count two was for rape in the first degree. The charge stemmed on or about Sept. 24 when the defendant, acting together with James Borchers, unlawfully and knowingly engage in intercourse with a person who was incapable of consent by reason of mental incapacitation and physical helplessness. Count three was for endangering the welfare of a minor. The charge stemmed from an incident on or about Sept. 24 when the defendant, acting together with James Borchers, unlawfully and knowingly permit a person under 18 years of age to remain in a place where unlawful activity involving controlled substances was conducted. Count four was for endangering the welfare of a minor. The charge stemmed from an incident on or about Sept. 25 when the defendant, acting together with Paula Esposito, unlawfully and knowingly possess methamphetamine in a quantity of 10 grams or more. Charge three was for unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine. The charge stemmed from an incident on or about Sept. 25 when the defendant, acting together with Paula Esposito, unlawfully and knowingly manufacture methamphetamine. Count four was for unlawful delivery of methamphetamine. The charge stemmed from an incident on or about Sept. 25 when the defendant, acting together with Paula Esposito, unlawfully and knowingly delivery methamphetamine. Count five was for endangering the welfare of a minor. The charge stemmed from an incident on or about Sept. 25 when the defendant unlawfully and knowingly permit a person under the age of 18 years to enter or remain in a place where unlawful activity involving controlled substance was maintained and conducted. Count six was for endangering the welfare of a mine. The charge stemmed from an incident on or about Sept. 25 when the defendant unlawfully and knowingly permit a person under the age of 18 years to enter or remain in a place where unlawful activity involving controlled substance was maintained and conducted.
