Doris May Church Aikins, 89, passed away surrounded by family at Partners In Care Hospice House in Bend on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015 of natural causes.
Doris was born Oct. 24, 1925, in Roseburg to Frank and Belle Church, the oldest of four daughters.
She was raised in Camas Valley and was Valedictorian, Class of 1944. She attended Southern Oregon College, where she met Paul Aikins and was married Aug. 25, 1946.  They were married almost 59 years when Paul preceded her in death in 2005.
Doris was a Christian and an educator. Her students knew that she was more than a teacher; that she was concerned that they all, regardless of ability, learned to read and that they knew that she cared for them beyond the classroom. She became part of the lives of several generations of kids in Paisley, where she taught for 28 years. She never had to tell anyone of her faith in Christ, as her life was an example of a life of devotion to Him and to others.
Doris loved Jesus, children, her family, frogs, quilting, the color green, flowers, gardening, fresh vegetables and blackberries—in just about that order.
Doris is survived by son, Dave Aikins, Medford; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Peggy Aikins, Ashland; daughters and sons-in-law; Mary and Jerry Bugge, and Jessie Clark and Jack Miller, Paisley; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Louise “Billie” and Ronald Quackenbush, Medford and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, 2:00 p.m. at Paisley Community Center, with potluck dinner to follow.  Graveside service and interment will be held privately.  In lieu of flowers, please remember Doris with donations to Partners in Care Hospice, 2075 NE Wyatt St. Bend 97701, the Paisley School Lunch Program, or the Paisley Community Church.
Ousley Osterman Huffstutter Funeral Chapel has charge of the arrangements.
